How to Adjust Rabbitgoo Dog Harness? Step-by-Step Guide

Have you ever spent hours measuring your dog friend for a new harness, only to find it's not quite the perfect fit? It's a frustrating situation, right? But don’t worry, this isn’t the case with the Rabbitgoo dog harness, all thanks to the adjustment features.  You can ensure a snug, cozy fit harness for your dog with just a few simple tweaks. So, let me guide you through the step-by-step process of how to adjust the Rabbitgoo dog harness.

How Does the Rabbitgoo Dog Harness Work?

Rabbitgoo has a large variety of dog harnesses such as no pull dog harness, escape proof dog harness, tactical dog harnss, easy walk dog harness, step-in harness... Each type of harness is different but all of them serve one main purpose which is securing your dog outside the home.

Almost every Rabbitgoo dog harness are equipped with adjustable straps and sliders in order to make the harness fit your pet's body. Adjustables tend to be on the neck and chest sides of the dog harness, totaling four adjustable slide buckles.

It is important to note that the size of the harness should be adjusted on both sides of the sliders, not on one side aloneOtherwise the harness will tilt to one side when worn on the dog. This will not only reduce the comfort of wearing the harness, but also the safety.

Signs Your Dog’s Harness Needs Adjustment

Before you begin with the harness adjustment, it's a good idea to check if the issue is truly a matter of fit, or if the size itself is incorrect. Here are some signs that show the harness needs some tweaking:

  • You can fit more than two fingers under the straps when fitted
  • The harness is shifting or twisting around your dog's body
  • Your dog seems uncomfortable or is scratching at the harness
  • The leash attachment point isn't sitting at the right height
  • The back of the harness rotates to the sides when your dog walks

The signs mentioned above show that the dog harness is loose. If that’s the case, follow our step-by-step guide below and it will fit. However, in case the harness doesn’t fit even after trying everything, it possibly means you’ve chosen a very big size, and now you’ve to buy another harness.

Step-by-Step Guide to Adjusting the Rabbitgoo Dog Harness

As we said, almost all of our Rabbitgoo dog harness has straps and buckles in them. These two things are the key to adjusting the harness according to your dog's size. So first, find these adjustment features.

Step 1 - Find the neck buckle and adjust it first

Find the slider at the neck and lift up to make the strap into a bridge shape. You can clearly see that one side of the strap is single layered and the other side is double layered. Pass your fingers through the two layered strap and pull the slider with the other hand.

The closer the slide is to the chest D-ring, the smaller the range of adjustment, and the closer the slide is to the back D-ring, the larger the range of adjustment.

The slider slides to a certain range, and by tugging on the harness with one hand and pulling on the single layer of straps in the opposite direction with the other hand, the adjustable straps can be restored to their normal state instead of their bridge shape.

Step 2 - Find the chest buckle and adjust it

Chest adjustments are a little more complicated than neck adjustments, and the most important first step is to adjust the slider closer to the non- handle position. That is, keep the buckle and slider on separate sides! Adjustment is the same as for the neck.

Ways to make the chest strap shorter

After completing the above adjustments, place the hand holding the strap in a horizontal position, grasping the socket with one hand and the slider with the other, and bring them close to each other by hand. At this point you will notice that the straps will protrude a little through the buckle.

Run one finger through the double layer of straps on the protruding part, then run another finger through the other side, allowing the protruding upper strap to go away to the other side.

In this case, tug on the slider with one hand, and with the other hand, tug on the end of the upper strap in the opposite direction so that the strap becomes shorter.

Ways to make the chest strap longer

It is much easier to make the band longer than shorter. Still building on the previously mentioned, this can be achieved by pulling on the slider with one hand and tugging on the chest portion of the harness in the opposite direction with the other.

Step 3 - Put harness on your dog and adjust

Being the first to adjust the approximate size will allow your dog to put on the carrier more quickly. Once your doggo is calmly positioned, you can gently guide them into the harness until it rests properly around their body.

Remember, different harness styles work differently, so take a moment to learn how yours is meant to be put on according to the type. If you're struggling, try referring back to the instructions of the harness. Adjustment is the same as above, except that adjusting it after it has been placed on your dog will require some care and patience on your part.

The way to tell if the harness fits is to insert two fingers into the gap between the harness and the dog at the side. If two fingers can slide in, it is a perfect fit. If more than two fingers, it is loose.

Besides the two-finger rule, keep an eye on your dog's behavior, it matters a lot. The expression of your dog can easily tell whether the harness is tight or not.

FAQs

What should I do if my dog tries to escape from their harness?

First, try to identify the reason why your dog is trying to escape from the harness. It could be that the harness is too tight and causing discomfort, or they may not be used to wearing one yet.

If it's a fitting issue, adjust the straps to loosen it up. If they’re scared of the harness, you may have to introduce the harness properly using positive reinforcement.

What happens if a dog harness is too big?

If the harness is too loose and oversized, your dog can easily back out of it or slip free while walking or playing. This eliminates the safety and control a proper harness provides, so you'll need to get a new one in the right size.

How do I make sure my dog harness fits?

You can make sure that the harness fits the dog properly by measuring your dog's body. Simply take a measuring tape and measure the neck girth and chest girth, then find the harness according to the size. The harness should be fit but allow for two fingers to slip under comfortably after adjustment.
